Leveraging your strength for fulfilling professional and personal life

Our strengths are found in the things that seem easy to learn and easy to do. These strengths often manifest as behaviors, characteristics, inherent talents, learned knowledge, and transferable skills. These are areas of our life that we have developed through prolonged disciplined effort; and because we have spent so much time focusing on these areas of life, we become proficient and able to perform certain tasks and activities at a higher level than most other people.

When we come into this world, we naturally develop certain interests early in life resulting from very specific life experiences. These interests immediately influence how we think about these things; and as we think about these things we learn more about them; and as we learn more, we know more — then, as a result, we become more proficient in specific areas of our lives.

None of us is born with strengths. Yes, some of us will certainly have some genetic strengths, however, the majority of our strengths stem from our interests. These interests are built upon our curiosity and willingness to be more inquisitive about certain aspects of life. This inquisitiveness encourages us to learn more about these areas through experience, and as we gain more experience we begin to develop strengths that carry us forward for the remainder of our lives.

One simpler way to identify our strength is conduct an RBS exercise. Another way is to note all decisions we take with their expected outcome and conduct a review when we have the final outcome. Doing this feedback check  for long period of time will give us an understanding of the areas we are good. This will generate certain themes for us to focus upon.
A successful life and career is always built on leveraging our strength and not improving our weaknesses. Knowing what type of person (Reading/ listening) we are enables us to understand our environment better. This understanding enables us to perform us to our fullest potential.
A reading person is one who understands better by reading things. These people go to meetings/ discussion with reading all the relevant and required information and all the question responses are prepared in advance. A listening person is one who understand better by listening things. These peoples take part in discussion with out much preparation and prepare their responses based on the information they listen during the meetings/ discussions.
Knowing our weakness is very important from the point of team building. If i am aware that i have certain weaknesses then i look for team members who have my weak area as their strength. This approach ensures that each member in the team is playing with its strength and  complementing each other and together team is succeeding.

  1. Congratulations Rishab.

Strength based approach and Positive organizational behaviour are interesting concepts. It can just be extended to many levels. Self, Team, Org and Society... At all these levels, the focus tend to be more on addressing weakness rather than leveraging strengths...See there i addressed weakness..
